Miracles in Cancer Treatments

Courageous Article for the Cancer Patients and their Relative

Nearly every oncologist can tell the story of cancer patients who beat the odds, responding so well to treatment that they continued to live lots of years disease-free, while most of their peers worsened & finally died.

an oncologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Middle in New York City, delved in to the case of a woman with advanced bladder cancer who volunteered for a 45-patient study of the Novartis drug Afinitor. They discovered that a mix of gene mutations made her receptive to the treatment.

"Every other patient died, but she is without proof of illness for over years now,"

such patients - sometimes called "outliers" or "super responders" - have stood out by staging outstanding recoveries, or long-term benefit, from cancer drugs that provide small or no help to others. Small heed has been paid to them because there was no way to know why they fared so well. In most cases, the drugs that helped them were abandoned because they helped few patients.

"These experiences have always been out there, where somebody's grandmother was told they had months to live and they tried something and they bounced back," said Dr. Bill Hahn, an oncologist with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. "But nobody ever understood why grandma responded in such a very fabulous way."

The Bethesda, Maryland-based National Cancer Institute (NCI) and academic researchers it sponsors have launched "super responder" initiatives to match patients having little-known gene mutations to drugs already shown to help others with the same mutations, even if their tumors are for a variety of organs.

Drugmakers are cautious, if only because they are sufficiently busy trying to create new medicines against some 300 identified cancer gene mutations. With the priority on developing drugs that will help giant numbers of patients, they are reluctant, at least for now, to look backward to salvage failed drug studies.

"We've tried to create our drugs specifically so they actually create the drug for the right population of patients" in the first place, said Sandra Horning, a senior oncology executive at Roche's Genentech unit.

Cure with Vegetables

 BROCCOLI

Protects Against Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer

According to research at Liverpool University, broccoli & other leafy greens contain a fibre rich in the sugar galactose, which could help prevent proteins called lectins from binding to the lining of the colon & causing damage.

Broccoli & other cruciferous relatives vegetables are also rich in indole compounds - plant chemicals which appear to alter oestrogen metabolism, decreasing the risk of breast cancer. out of studies examining the relationship between breast cancer & cruciferous vegetables found that high consumption decreased the risk by 40pc.

A compound called sulphorophane in broccoli also stimulates the production of liver enzymes which damage cancercausing chemicals.

TOMATOES

Protects Against  Cancer and Heart Disease

According to a review in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, individuals who eat lots of tomato-based foods can reduce their risk of developing various cancers by 40pc.

One of the main active ingredients in tomatoes is the phytochemical lycopene, which fights free radicals that may cause cancer.

The facts for tomatoes' beneficial effect is strongest for cancers of the prostate, lung & stomach, but it may even be shown for the colon, pancreas, oesophagus, oral cavity, breast & cervix.

Processing tomatoes in to ketchup, puree or sauce increases the availability of lycopene by softening hard plant cell walls.

Research studying over one,000 U.S. & European men found those with the highest levels of lycopene were about half as likely to have had a heart assault.

CABBAGE

Protects Against Cancer,Birth Defects And Heart Disease
Cabbage is claimed to ease stomach ulcers due to the presence of glutamine and of s-methylmethionine.

The folk treatment is to drink a couple of pints of cabbage juice a day, but freshly made cabbage soup is a way more palatable alternative. As a member of the cruciferous relatives of vegetables, cabbage is also likely to prevent colon cancer and breast cancer.

U.S. study showed individuals who ate cabbage over one time a week reduced their chance of contracting bowel cancer by twothirds, though other studies haven't shown such conclusive results.

SPINACH

Protects against: Cataracts and macular degeneration

Two antioxidants in spinach - lutein & zeaxanthin - appear to protect against age- related eye diseases, including cataracts as well as macular degeneration.

It is thought the phytochemicals - present in concentrated amounts in the retina - neutralise harmful free radicals generated in the eye through sun exposure.

Curly kale is also rich in lutein & zeaxanthin.

In American study, individuals who ate spinach 5-6 times a week had an 86pc lower risk of having advanced macular degeneration.

Symptoms Of Heart Attack

HEART ATTACK

The heart muscle requires a constant supply of oxygen-rich blood to nourish it. The coronary arteries provide the heart with this critical blood supply. In case you have coronary artery disease, those arteries become narrow & blood cannot flow as well as they ought to. Fatty matter, calcium, proteins, & inflammatory cells build up within the arteries to form plaques of different sizes. The plaque deposits are hard on the outside & soft & mushy on the inside.

When the plaque is hard, the outer shell cracks (plaque rupture), platelets (disc-shaped particles in the blood that aid clotting) come to the area, & blood clots form around the plaque. If a blood clot blocks the artery, the heart muscle becomes "starved" for oxygen. Within a short time, death of heart muscle cells occurs, causing permanent destroy. This is a heart assault.

While it is unusual, a heart assault may even be caused by a spasm of a coronary artery. In the work of a coronary spasm, the coronary arteries restrict or spasm on & off, reducing blood supply to the heart muscle (ischemia). It may occur at rest, & may even occur in people without significant coronary artery disease.

Each coronary artery supplies blood to a region of heart muscle. The amount of destroy to the heart muscle depends on the size of the area supplied by the blocked artery & the time between injury & treatment.

Healing of the heart muscle begins soon after a heart assault & takes about eight weeks. like a skin wound, the heart's wound heals as well as a scar will form in the damaged area. But, the new scar tissue does not contract. So, the heart's pumping ability is diminished after a heart assault. The amount of lost pumping ability depends on the size & location of the scar.

SYMPTOMS OF HEART ATTACKS.

Symptoms of a heart assault include:

  •   Discomfort, pressure, heaviness, or pain in the chest, arm, or below the breastbone
  •   Discomfort radiating to the back, jaw, throat, or arm
  •   Fullness, indigestion, or choking feeling (may feel like heartburn)
  •   Sweating, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness
  •   Extreme weakness, anxiety, or shortness of breath
  •   Speedy or irregular heartbeats
During a heart assault, signs last 30 minutes or longer and are not relieved by rest or nitroglycerin under the tongue.

Some people have a heart assault without having any signs (a "silent" myocardial infarction). A silent MI can occur in someone, but it is more common among people with diabetes.

Psycho Women

PSYCHO WOMEN
Psycho - that word says it all. It means nuts.  Psycho females will do things that are crazy lacking rational thought  actions with no thought about consequences.  Sometimes they are violent.  Sometimes they break things or throw things. Sometimes they scream and yell. Sometimes they do outrageous things like vandalize your automobile, or embarrass or harass you at work.  They might even threaten you or your new girlfriend.  You get the idea.  These females are plain crazy - and there is nothing you can do to alter them.   Your best strategy after you recognize that a females is psycho is to cut your losses immediately hopefully before they gets attached to you, as that might minimize potential bad behavior that might be directed toward you.

Sounds scary, eh? The comic part is that most psycho ladies do not appear to be psycho right away. Sometimes it takes plenty of months before their true colors start to show. You best bet as a midlife bachelor is to watch for early signs of psychosis, and then make your decisions.  thing to be cautious of  ladies who are psycho are often passionate in nature which means they are most likely excellent in bed.  Keep in mind what I said earlier when I was speaking about false starts lovely sex can mask over plenty of things.  So when the sex starts off , hot  be additional cautious.  Watch the remainder of her behavior carefully, and see how he treats other people  as that is key process for early detection of a psycho woman.

WHY A WOMAN TURN PSYCHO?
Let me give you some examples.  My lovely mate, Greg, has a psycho spouse named Tiffany  who I often use as an example throughout this website.  thing that Tiffany still does to this day is harass the people that work in grocery or department stores in the event that they are not tremendous courteous to her.  In other words, in the event that they do not extend a high degree of graciousness toward her, he is likely to cause a scene.  Now I have never personally witnessed of these episodes  but they apparently are bad that my mate, Greg, won't go shopping with Tiffany.  They also tells me that he will start yelling at other customers in a store if, for example, someone bumps in to her accidentally.  The bottom line is that this woman is so psycho that he thinks the world must bow down to her.

A nice example in my own life was a woman named Mia who worked at of the local automobile dealerships.  The service manager had fixed me up together with her because they said they was without a fella, and I (the midlife bachelor) was available at the time, and I was a first rate man.  Anyway, I met this woman at a restaurant of her choosing and they picked a Sizzler.  [Obviously her restaurant choice told me they was not high maintenance  which was fine.]  When I met her  wow, they was an very good-looking blonde.  They had kind of a giant ass, but I go through phases where I like giant asses  so I thought they was going to be a great ride. I knew this woman had manners and professionalism since they was the customer support manager at the automobile dealership so everything was looking nice at this point.  Now in the event you know the Sizzler restaurants, you know that you order at the register and then the waitress brings the food out to you.  Here where the early warning technique began to kick in.  When the waitress brought Mia her food Mia was not happy at all with it. They said her steak was not done  but clearly both I and the waitress could see that it was prepared medium with some pink  which was the way they ordered it.  So Mia had it sent back   and my food sat in front of me while they waited.  A couple of minutes later, the waitress brought Mia a brand spanking new steak this was more medium well with barely any pink (which was what Mia asked for).  Again this wasn't nice  so Mia sent it back, as I watched my own meal get cold.  The third try worked  but not before Mia had gotten huffy with the waitress.  My own take on the situation was  this is a Sizzler, not a star restaurant  I desired to tell Mia to close the screw up, and eat the damn steak, but I seldom said a word.  I did leave the waitress a pleasant tip though.

Okay so the psycho illustration of Mia continues.  Mia was a single mom, and was not receiving any child support.  He lived in the poor part of town, and drove an older automobile.  He asked me to come over, and that he would make me dinner but he only had hamburger helper, with no hamburger.  To me this sounded like he might appreciate some help so on my way over, I bought a couple of packages of ground sirloin for that night, and for her and her son on a different night.  When I showed up with the meat, he had a fit he said he didn't need any fucking handouts!  I explained to her that I was trying to help out, and he did wind up using the meat  but whole evening was odd because he had bitched me out so badly when I first arrived.  When it came time for me to leave, he walked me out to my automobile  and when I attempted to give her a kiss, he told me Not in front of my son, you fool,  Her son was inside playing a video game, and I was only looking for a peck, not a make out session  so as I drove away, I was 100% positive that this girl was absolutely psycho, and I never called her again.

Everything that happened with Mia occurred right away  the signs of psychosis were obvious, and any midlife bachelor would must be blind not to notice them.  Sometimes the signs can take some time to surface as is the case of of my earliest girlfriends, Michele.  Michele was a good-looking, smart blonde that I had met in my youth.  They and I dated, and wound up in bed together quickly.  The sex was absolutely fantastic  and I couldn't get of her they were always knocking it out any chance they could.  After the novelty of the relationship began to wear off, I began to notice that Michele had a bad temper sometimes.  They didn't yell at people in public (as in the Tiffany example), her anger was directed much at me only, and would build up over time.  Her anger would accumulate, and then anything would set her off  and they would actually punch me in the face, like a man!  I had never seen anything like this before  ever  so I was one time uncertain how to handle it.  I never hit her back  but what I did do (when I saw the punch coming) was cease her fist with my hand, and twirl her around in to a bear hug until they calmed down.  Her behavior alarmed me a lot that I insisted they go to a psychologist for therapy  which they did.  But that violent behavior always came back. I thought about calling the police  but friends had told me that anytime you call the police in a domestic violence situation, the man always goes to jail . and I thought it would look a small foolish of me telling a police officer that this hot small blonde was abusing me  it sounded bad.  Fortunately, they dumped me before things got any worse.Never had any other girlfriend ever behave violently toward me.

You can see from these examples the different signs of a woman being psycho, & the various timeframes in which this behavior emerges.  The bottom line as a midlife bachelor, you've got to keep your eyes & ears open, you've got to watch these females like a hawk, & know what you are getting yourself in to.  Positive  you can continue dating a psycho woman but there will come a time when you may regret it.  My advice is that you deal with it earlier than later, & jettison any psycho woman you find yourself dating.  Your next girlfriend is not likely to be as psycho!  Next, !

WHAT IS AUTISM

AUTISM
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) & autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal & nonverbal communication & repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) & Asperger syndrome. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination & attention & physical health issues such as sleep & gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math & art.

Autism appears to have its roots in early brain development. However, the most obvious signs of autism & signs of autism tend to emerge between two & three years of age. Autism Speaks continues to fund research on effective methods for earlier diagnosis, as early intervention with proven behavioral therapies can improve outcomes. Increasing autism awareness is a key aspect of this work & in which our families & volunteers play an invaluable role.

Is Autism Common?
By way of comparison, more children are diagnosed with autism each year than with juvenile diabetes, AIDS or cancer, combined.* ASD affects over two million individuals in the U.S. & tens of millions worldwide. Moreover, government autism statistics recommend that prevalence rates have increased ten to 17 percent yearly in recent years. There is no established explanation for this continuing increase, although improved diagnosis & environmental influences are reasons often thought about.

Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) identify around one in 88 American children as on the autism spectrum a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years. Cautious research shows that this increase is only partly explained by improved diagnosis & awareness. Studies also show that autism is to times more common among boys than girls. An estimated one out of 54 boys & one in 252 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States.

Causes Of Autism
Not long ago, the answer to this query would have been we have no idea. Research is now delivering the answers. First and foremost, they now know that there is no cause of autism as there is no type of autism. Over the last years, scientists have identified a considerable number of rare gene changes, or mutations, associated with autism. A small number of these are to cause autism by themselves. Most cases of autism, however, appear to be caused by a combination of autism risk genes and environmental factors influencing early brain development.

In the presence of a genetic predisposition to autism, a considerable number of nongenetic, or environmental, stresses appear to further increase a child's risk. The clearest facts of these autism risk factors involves events before and in the coursework of birth. They include advanced parental age at time of conception (both mom and dad), maternal disease in the coursework of pregnancy and definite difficulties in the coursework of birth, those involving periods of oxygen deprivation to the baby's brain. It is important to keep in mind that these factors, by themselves, do not cause autism. , in combination with genetic risk factors, they appear to modestly increase risk.

A growing body of research suggests that a woman can reduce her risk of having a infant with autism by taking prenatal vitamins containing folic acid and/or eating a diet rich in folic acid (at least 600 mcg a day) in the coursework of the months before & after conception.

Increasingly, researchers are taking a look at the role of the immune system in autism. Autism Speaks is working to increase awareness & inquiry of these & other issues, where further research has the potential to improve the lives of those who struggle with autism.

What Does It Mean to Be On the Spectrum
Each individual with autism is distinctive. Plenty of of those on the autism spectrum have exceptional abilities in visual skills, music & academic skills. About 40 percent have average to above average intellectual abilities. Indeed, plenty of persons on the spectrum take deserved pride in their unique abilities & atypical ways of viewing the world. Others with autism have significant disability & are unable to live independently. About 25 percent of individuals with ASD are nonverbal but can learn to communicate using other means. Autism Speaksmission is to improve the lives of all those on the autism spectrum. For some, this means the development & delivery of more effective treatments that can address significant challenges in communication & physical health. For others, it means increasing acceptance, respect & support.

WHY DO CHILDREN SUCK THEIR THUMB

HELP YOUR CHILD BREAK THE HABIT
Thumb sucking is a common habit among babies. At some point, though, you might think, "Enough is ." Here's help encouraging your child to cease the behavior.

WHY CHILDREN SUCK THEIR THUMB
Babies have natural rooting & sucking reflexes, which may cause them to put their thumbs or fingers in to their mouths sometimes even before birth.

Because thumb sucking is soothing to kids, some might finally create a habit of thumb sucking when they are bored, worn out or anxious.

Lots of kids who suck their thumbs or fingers do so while holding a treasured object, such as a security blanket.

HOW MUCH CHILDREN SUCK THUMB?
Keep in mind, though, even a kid who is stopped sucking his or her thumb might revert to the behavior when they or they is stressed or anxious.

Many children cease sucking their thumbs on their own sometime in the work of the child years between ages two & four. For older children who continue to suck their thumbs, peer pressure at school usually ends the habit.
